I am a creative media professional living in Lismore in north east NSW. I find this region to be inspiring because of it’s people, it’s environment and it’s amorphous nature. Very little seems to ever stay the same around here for long. The stifling summer heat rapidly turns into two weeks of solid rain and there’s nothing you can do to stop it. You just have to try to catch the rain while you can.
I have several creative areas that I work in including video & film production, music performance, composition and production and theatre. These days I also do a lot of teaching in the video production area.
My main specialties in the world of video production are Video and Audio Post Production, Location Audio Recording, Soundtrack Composition and DVD Authoring. Although I have also worked as a Writer, Producer, Director, Camera Operator, 1st AD, Sound Designer and Lighting Technician for live Theatre.
I am also a member of the group Real Art Works. We are a not for profit organisation dedicated to creating arts projects in collaboration with people from marginalized sections of our community. This is not out of some altruistic streak we have, but rather because these people don’t often have the pre-conceived idea of what art should be. This means they are more likely to create what I think of as Real Art Works. To this end RAW do a lot of work with people with disabilities and people living on remote communities.
In my spare time (if there is any), I like to play music, I find it a little sad that I relegate this to my spare time these days as making music is one of my favorite things to do and has taught me more over the years than almost anything else I can think of. I started off playing Guitars but I have diverged into all sorts of music makers these days. I particularly love my YC-1 organ and my electric fiddle. However popular music is too much of a fashion industry these days and so I choose to be unpopular in my music making – yeah really, it is so my choice.
I often use my instruments to create soundtracks for film & video projects. I love the way that the music can do so much to tell the story when put with vision. Some people say that film is 50/50 music & vision. I reckon it’s more like 70/30. No one likes the film unless they like the music. It’s the audio that gives you the rest. But who really cares to break it down into figures. The magic happens when they both work together.
I like creating that magic.
